"The Third Room. Der Dritte Raum. Trzeci Pokoj"

"The Kunst­hal­le Düs­sel­dorf and the Mu­se­um of Mo­dern Art in War­saw are col­la­bo­ra­ting on joint ex­hi­bi­ti­ons

und War­saw. Bo­th aca­de­mies play­ed a pionee­ring ro­le in the de­ve­lop­ment of al­ter­na­ti­ve forms of teaching in the 1960s and 1970s, re­pre­sen­ted by Jo­seph Beuys and his “so­ci­al sculp­tu­re” con­cept and “ex­ten­ded de­fi­ni­ti­on of art” in Düs­sel­dorf and by Os­kar Han­sen and his theo­ry and prac­tice of “Open Form” in War­saw.
 The two si­te-spe­ci­fic in­stal­la­ti­ons ta­ke the spe­cial ar­chi­tec­tu­ral fea­tures and pro­por­ti­ons of the cor­re­spon­ding spaces in Düs­sel­dorf and War­saw in­to ac­count. A spe­ci­fic si­tua­ti­on ty­pi­cal of Os­kar Han­sen’s class­room in War­saw will be recrea­ted in Düs­sel­dorf, whi­le in War­saw an ar­chi­tec­tu­ral space will be crea­ted that makes re­fe­rence to the two rooms Beuys used (rooms 19 and 20) at the aca­de­my in Düs­sel­dorf. Bo­th rooms will thus ser­ve as (re­al and me­ta­pho­ri­cal) ex­hi­bi­ti­on and pro­duc­tion spaces for the selec­ted ar­tists, car­ry­ing on or brea­king wi­th cer­tain tra­di­ti­ons and en­te­ring in­to a dia­lo­gue wi­th each other.
