Marianna Simnett is one of the most radical and innovative artists of her generation. Her work revolves around metamorphosis and myth, ecstasy, sex and pain. The videos and installations she has presented at the Venice Biennale, the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin and numerous other major institutions are accompanied by masterful drawings and watercolours that possess a surprising beauty while often concealing something far more disturbing beneath the surface. The same is true of the edition she created exclusively for Monopol.
“The Healer” (2026) depicts a naked female figure licking a lion lying on the ground, while other lions roar in the background. The work continues Simnett’s fascination with animals, boundaries and power, as the artist explains: “The relationship between human and animal appears tender, and the boundaries between species begin to blur. Licking wounds is an instinctive behaviour in animals that can have an antiseptic effect and accelerate healing. I use watercolour and moisture to dissolve the boundaries between subjects and emotions.”

“The Healer” (2026) is an archival pigment print measuring 60 × 79 cm. The edition is issued in 25 copies plus two artist’s proofs and is priced at €1016,50 incl. VAT.
