Arthur Aeschbacher 1923 - 2020 would have turned 100 on April 3.
To mark this occasion, we are showing "WERKPHASEN". Works of art of different kinds from six decades.
In addition, we show photos from 30 years of friendly collaboration.
Welcome Daniel Häne, Vice Consul Switzerland.
The first of eleven exhibitions worldwide to mark the anniversary.
Aeschbacher was one of the poster artists, but stayed away from the Nouveaux Réalistes movement because he did not share its sociological goals. Instead of celebrating "anonymous carving" like Hains or La Villeglé, Aeschbacher used the poster as "material for painters." For him, the language of the poster, which he peels off, then pastes back on and reassembles, is above all the language of its colors, its thickness, and its heels. Thus his paintings in the 1960s consist of successive layers of cut-up posters whose texts have become illegible
