Berliner Luft - Asger Carlsen
The gallery is pleased to announce a presentation from Asger Carlsen for the latest installment in our Berliner Luft program. Carlsen’s 2017 photo collaboration with Liberian-American fashion designer Telfar Clemens, titled The Telfar Family, is on view alongside a set of manipulated nudes from 2015 featuring electroclash pop icon Casey Spooner. The presentation opens in the upstairs gallery on Monday, July 6, and is open to visitors through Saturday, July 11, from 11 AM to 6 PM.
The Telfar Family was exhibited at the KW Institute for Contemporary Art and the Akademie der Künste in 2017 as part of the 9th Berlin Biennale. Over twenty members of Telfar’s family model his line of TELFAR garments, whose design plays on the basic white T-shirt with idioms of luxury, ambivalence, gender, uniformity, and individuality. In a series of six framed photographs, Carlsen alters these studio sittings, digitally manipulating his subjects’ shared anatomy.
