The Berlin native Helmut Newton, cosmopolitan and provocateur of fashion and portrait photography, would have turned 100 years old in October of this year; the New York-born painter, writer, gallery owner, and publisher William N. Copley 101 years old. Celebrating this occasion, we will present selected photographs by Newton in conjunction with Copley's drawings and paintings – both of whom shaped the depiction of lust, sexuality, power, and physicality in their respective media.
The exhibition is a cooperative project with the galleries Kicken Berlin and Meyer Riegger, the latter has invited the British artist Jonathan Monk (*1969) to respond directly to Newton's photographs with works created specifically for the exhibition. Monk is also represented with pieces in our rooms, while a canvas by Copley is shown at Meyer Riegger.
