MYTH Gallery presents an opening of Evgeny Gavrilov's personal exhibition "Sleepers Club" – the artist's first solo project. What the audience will see grew out of his musical and then audiovisual practice when video and virtual reality technologies were gradually added to the sound. For the exhibition, Evgeny for the first time collected scattered works of the last six years and combined them with the theme of sleep.
The total interactive installation is based on the "XX:XX" project – an author's series, each episode of which appears every 20th day of the month at 20:20, filmed during the lockdown from January 2020 till the present days. During the exhibition, the gallery space will turn into the interiors in which the series was filmed. It will match with the virtual spaces created by the artist.
Sound occupies a special place in the work of Evgeny Gavrilov, who experiments with electronic music under the alias Dyad. For the project, the artist recorded a series of tracks. It can be heard while wandering in virtual spaces created for VR helmets.
"Sleepers club is a club and we show how it works. We find ourselves in a complex first-person story about the boundary effects of sleep – deprivation, lucid dreams, etc. – where the oniric is intertwined with the real, objects from the dream migrate to the screen and back to the space of the object world. How do I get into the Sleepers club? Maybe you are already in it?"
