Anonymous Collection – Alex Grein

In her new series "Anonymous Collection", Alex Grein has added pictorial elements to photographs by unknown artists from the Kunstpalast collection in Düsseldorf. The pictorial space becomes a stage for new narratives, actions and snapshots, but is not alienated in the process. For example, a feather flies from a skyscraper and is captured photographically by a barely noticeable shadow. Or a previously hard-to-read scene on the beach is transformed into a tug-of-war.

Even the smallest analog changes show how changeable pictorial realities are and cast a shadow on our current debate about the authenticity of the image in the digital age.
