Florin Kompatscher refuses to call painting into question, and yet his paintings do raise questions in this regard. Kompatscher works from a repertoire that he has developed and expanded for more than forty years, a repertoire that stands for itself in its concise complexity. The works are captivating with an almost forced opulence and therein a play with color, hatching and layering, an intensive suggestive interaction that neither the artist nor his audience can escape.
The exhibition will be accompanied by Florin Kompatscher's new book TINT published by Galerie Thoman (Snoeck) with texts by Gregor Jansen, Sandro Drosch and Margareta Sandhofer.
