In their solo exhibition "anima atman", the London-based artist group Troika continues their interest in the intersections between virtual and material realities in new installations, paintings, and sculptural objects.
The exhibition's main installation of silicon and living plants "Anima Atman" dismantles a human-centric hierarchy of being by exploring the agency of plant life. Troika raises philosophical questions about the forces that give life to matter, what constitutes intelligent life, and where human beliefs, knowledge and understanding sit within these questions. The exhibition explores the porous boundaries between human and other forms of intelligence, and previews Troika's major solo exhibition at the Langen Foundation in Neuss opening in September.
Presented for the first time, Troika's new series of large metal "Obsolete Landscapes" are based on sky fragments taken from the desktop backgrounds of various Mac operating systems. The artists use these to question the artificiality and obsolescence of speculative ecosystems.
Currently Troika's works are part of the group exhibition "Poetics of Encryption" at KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin. In addition to the solo exhibition at max goelitz in Berlin, Troika will be presenting solo exhibitions this year at the MAK in Vienna and the Langen Foundation in Neuss.
