Galerie Gilla Lörcher | Contemporary Art freut sich sehr, die zweite Einzelausstellung des chilenischen Künstlers Gonzalo Reyes Araos in der Galerie zu präsentieren. Die Ausstellung umfasst eine Auswahl an Arbeiten aus dem Jahr 2022, welche aus den Recherchen des Künstlers während der vergangenen zwei Jahre hervorgegangen sind.
Der Titel der Ausstellung "Nocturnos" (nächtlich oder nachts auf Spanisch) ist vom Nachthimmel inspiriert. Dieser ist Teil einer Untersuchung, in der Gonzalo Reyes Araos hinterfragt, wie zeitgenössische Medien unsere Verbundenheit mit der Natur konditioniert und neu definiert haben und wie wir die Welt von Bildschirmen und Denktechnologien aus wahrnehmen.
„Meine zahlreichen Reisen in die chilenische Atacama-Wüste in den letzten zwei Jahren waren eine immense Inspirationsquelle. Ich beobachtete und lernte die Andenkultur kennen, studierte ihre Kosmologie und verband mich mit der Natur. In der Antike verließ sich die Menschheit auf ihre natürliche Umwelt, um als Gesellschaft zu überleben und voranzukommen. Sie erkannten sich als Teil dieses Ökosystems oder akzeptierten zumindest, dass es die Quelle all ihrer Vorteile war. Ich frage mich, bis zu welchem Grad wir uns heute in einem „natürlichen Ökosystem“ verwirklichen. Inwieweit werden das Sonnenlicht und die Jahreszeiten unser biologisches System weiterhin konditionieren?“, so Gonzalo Reyes Araos.
Galerie Gilla Loercher | Contemporary Art is very pleased to present the second solo exhibition of Chilean artist Gonzalo Reyes Araos at the gallery. The exhibition comprises a selection of works created in 2022; they were issued from the last two years of research as part of a creative process of long-range and varied formats.
"Nocturnos" (nocturnal or nighttime in Spanish) is inspired by the night sky. It is part of an investigation in which Gonzalo Reyes Araos interrogates how contemporary media have conditioned and redefined our bond with nature and how we perceive the world from screens and thought technology.
„In recent years the repeated journeys I have undertaken to the Atacama Desert in Chile have been an immense source of inspiration. I observed and learnt about the Andean culture, studied its cosmology and bonded with nature.
In ancient times, humanity relied on its natural environment to survive and progress as a society. They recognized themselves as part of this ecosystem or at least accepted that it was the source of all their benefits. Gonzalo Reyes Araos wonders to what level we realize ourselves today in a natural ecosystem. To what extent will sunlight and the seasons continue to condition our biological system?", questions Gonzalo Reyes Araos.

Gonzalo Reyes Araos was awarded the VI Juan Francisco Gonzales prize (CL), the II Corral y su bahia painting prize (CL), the Art residency grant at Seoul Art Space Geumchon / Seoul Fundation for Arts and Culture (KR), he was shortlisted for the Losito Kunstpreis 2015 (D), received the H Residency in 2020, Calama (CL) and was awarded the research artist grant awarded by the Berlin Senat for Visual Arts, Berlin in 2021(D) a.o.
